Description

Aleve is used as a both analgesic and antipyretic against various kinds of pain and fever associated with arthritis, menstrual cramps, and gout, pain in the head & back and tendinitis. Naproxen sodium is present as a main therapeutic agent, which belongs to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) group. This medicine exhibits the action by inhibiting the cyclooxygenase enzyme (COX-1 and COX-2). This enzyme is responsible for the biosynthesis of the prostaglandin from conversion of the Arachidonic acid to prostaglandin. Prostaglandin is an inflammatory mediator that cause of inflammation in the body. This medicine is completely absorbed by the stomach and exhibits effective action. This tablet may be taken with or without foods.

Indications of Aleve

Aleve is prescribed for the treatment of pain and fever of the rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, spondylitis and acute gout. This medicine is also useful for the mild to moderate pain and primary dysmenorrhoea.

Contraindications of Aleve

In a few medical conditions, this medicine shows some contraindications and produces some deleterious effects to the health. These medical conditions are described below;

  • Anaphylactic  reactions
  •  kidney failure
  •  Heart disease
  • During pregnancy
  • During breast feeding

Doses and administration of Aleve

Aleve is a solid dosage form, which is consumed by the oral route. The dose of this medicine is depending upon the patient age.

Adult dose

For the Patients suffering from the Ankylosing Spondylitis, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis -

  • The initial dose of this medicine is 250 mg to 500 mg twice in 24 hours.
  • The Maximum recommended a dose of this medicine is 1500 mg or 1650 mg per day in 2-divided doses up to 6 months.

For the Patients suffering from the acute gout

 The recommended dose of this medicine is 250 or 275 mg in every 8 hours until gout symptoms are not resolve (usually 2 to 3 days).

For the Patients suffering from tendonitis, bursitis, Dysmenorrhea and pain

The recommended dose of this medicine is 250 or 275 mg in every 6 to 8 hours.

                                                    Geriatric dose

  • The recommended dose of this medicine is  250 mg  twice in a day

Pediatrics dose

  • The dose of this medicine is depending upon the body weight.
  • The recommended initial dose of this medicine is 2.5 to 10 mg/kg/dose thrice in a day.
  • Do not exceed up to 10mg /kg in every dose.
