Description

Anafranil is anti-anxiety drugs, which is used for the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder. Clomipramine is the main active ingredient, belongs to the Tricyclic antidepressant group.  This medicine acts on the nerve cell of the brain and enhance the action of neurotransmission. Serotonin and Noradrenaline are the main neurotransmitters that are released from nerve cells. Depression occurs when there is imbalance secretion of Serotonin and Noradrenaline, which are discharged from nerve cells in the brain. Depression may be due to relationship problem, bereavement or illness.

Indications of Anafranil

Anafranil is indicated to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and also used to treat obsessions and manage depression, panic attacks, and on-going pain.

Contraindications of Anafranil

Anafranil is contraindicated if you have any medical condition. These medical conditions are given below;

  • Myocardial infarction ( heart disease)
  •  Cardiac arrhythmias
  • Mania

Dose and administration of Anafranil

Anafranil is a solid dosage, which is consuming by oral route. The initial recommended dose of this medicine is 25 mg once in a bedtime after meals but this dose may be increase up to 100mg in a day during the first 2 weeks depends upon the patient’s tolerability. The maximum dose of these medicines is 250mg in a day.

Missed dose of Anafranil

Take the missed dose as soon as you recall it. On the other hand, if it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and carry on your regular prescribed schedule. Do not attempt to take a double dose to compensate for a missed one.

Overdose of Anafranil

Overdose of Anafranil may cause severe health problems. Symptoms of overdose are severe drowsiness, seizures, fast/irregular heartbeat. If you feel any of the symptoms of overdose immediately contact your nearest health provider.
