Description

Celexa is a medicine that is prescribed for the treatment of bipolar disorder and depression. Citalopram is the main active medicament present in the Celexa. Citalopram is an antidepressant to treat major depressive disorder (MDD). It contains the reuptake of serotonin in Presynaptic neurons.  Neurotransmitters are synthesized and released by nerves and then attach to adjacent nerves. Citalopram acts by inhibiting the uptake of one neurotransmitter, Serotonin, by nerve cells after it has been released. Since uptake is a vital mechanism for eliminating released neurotransmitters and terminating their actions on closest nerves, the reduced uptake caused by Citalopram leads to fewer serotonins in the human brain to excite nerve cells.
