This medicine is used for treat open angle glaucoma. This medicine is containing two potent chemical components; Brimonidine and Timolol. This Brimonidine and Timolol are showing their action by the decrease pressure inside the eye. Both compounds give same action on the eye but use different way.

Brimonidine is an agonist of the alpha-2 adrenergic receptor. This alpha-2 adrenergic blocker is present on the blood vessel of the eye. This chemical compound is showing their action on blood vessel of the eyeball by stimulating alpha-2 adrenergic receptor and decrease production of aqueous fluid, result in reduces pressure in the humor chamber of the eye. Timolol is used as beta blocker receptors, which reduce the aqueous production in an eye, result in reducing the pressure in the eye. Both active compounds are increasing their action by helping each other.

Dosage and administration of Combigan

The Combigan is an ophthalmic product. The recommended dose of Combigan is one drop twice a day. This product containing 2mg/ml in which Brimonidine (5 mg/ml Brimonidine tartrate) Timolol (6.8 mg/mL Timolol maleate).The route of administration is ocular.

Indications of Combigan

This medicine is used for treatment of the open angle glaucoma or ocular pressure.

Side effects of Combigan

 

  • Most common adverse events of this medicine are allergic reaction in an eye, abnormal tearing, inflammation of eye, tiny bumps on lining of the eyelid.
  • Less common adverse events are Hypotension, sudden loss of vision, Irregular heart rate, Dizziness, Flushing, Fatigue confusion and breathing problem.
