Description

Gliclazide is an active constituent of Diamicron MR which belongs to the group of the Sulphonyl urea. This drug is mainly for the type-2 Diabetic patients. It helps the body to use the insulin effectively by increasing the secretion of the Insulin. Modified release tablet of Diamicron works effectively. It stimulates the pancreas cells to produce Insulin and helps to lower the blood sugar in the body. It generally increases the Insulin production just after the meal. So, this drug also avoids the long term complications of diabetes. These modified tablets are designed as to release the Gliclazide slowly so that it can provide an effective level of the drug in the blood for 24 hours.

Doses of Diamicron

The initial prescribed dose of Diamicron is 30 mg administered once daily at the same time. The dose of this medicine is adjusted by your physician; it may be increased up to 120 mg as a daily dose, depending upon the reduction of blood sugar level of your body. This medicine should be taken after taking the meal.

Who should not take Diamicron?

Under some medical conditions, Diamicron should not be used;

  • Hypothyroidism (Underactive thyroid gland)
  • Deficiency of glucose-6- phosphate dehydrogenase

Some of the drugs interact with Diamicron, they amend the action of Diamicron when they are consuming in combination with other drugs;

  1. 1.      ACE inhibitors- Captopril and Enalapril
  2. Antibiotic drugs- Sulfamethoxazole
  3. Salicylates- Aspirin
  4. MAO inhibitors- Phenelzine, Isocarboxazid and Tranylcypromine
  5. Anti coagulant drugs- Heparin and Warfarin

Adverse effects of Diamicron

Severe side effects

Indigestion, nausea, abdomen pain, hypoglycemia (low blood glucose level), skin reactions such as rashes, itching or hives, vision disturbance.

Hepatitis(inflammation of the liver), jaundice(yellowing of eyes or skin),

Use with some cautions

Some safety measures should be followed before taking Diamicron;

  • Avoid drinking of Alcohol and Alcoholic beverages because it causes the risk of lactic acidosis.

Storage environment of Diamicron

In case of skipped dose of Diamicron

In case of overdose of Diamicron

In case of overdosing of Diamicron instantly talk to your doctor and get some medical treatment from your nearest hospital.

Symptoms of overdose of Diamicron are numbness (deadness), severe headache, increased pulse rate, hypertension (increased blood pressure).

In case of severe overdose of Diamicron, Coma occurs.
