Description

Indocin is comes in the category of NSAID’s drugs. Indomethacin is the main active medicament present in the Indocin. NSAID’s inhibits the Cyclo-oxygenase (cox-1) and Cyclo-oxygenase (cox-2) enzymes. It also inhibits the Thromboxanes and prostaglandins. Indocin is used to treat the pain, fever and inflammation of the body. Indocin also treats pain and inflammation which are caused by Arthritis, Gout and tendinitis. Indocin also suppresses the inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis. Indocin also reduces the irritation and swelling caused by an injury.

Indications of Indocin

  • It is indicated in moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis.
  • It is used to treat moderate to severe osteoarthritis.
  • It is also used in the treatment of acute gouty arthritis.
  • It is also indicated in acute shoulder pain.

Dosage of Indocin

  • For the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis: The usual prescribed dose of this medicine 150mg - 200 mg within 24 hours.
  • For the treatment of the osteoarthritis: The dose of this drug is 100mg-150 mg within 24 hours.
  • For treatment of acute shoulder pain- 75mg to 150 mg which is divided into 3 to 4 dose within 24 hours. It should not be prescribed for pediatric patients.

Method of administration of Indocin- Indomethacin is available in the capsules. It should be taken by oral route. Do not chew, crush or break the capsule. Swallow the whole capsule with a glass of water. It should be taken with food or milk to minimize stomach distress.

Side effects of Indocin

  • When you are using Indocin some common side effects occurs; skin rashes, itching, severe headache, feeling of sleepiness, diarrhea, heartburn, gastric acidity, ringing sound in the ears and blurring of vision.
  • Stop consuming Indomethacin and take medical help immediately if you are suffering from below mention side effects- chest pain, muscle weakness, tachycardia, bradycardia, jaundice ( yellowing of skin and eyes), bloody vomiting.

Drug interactions of Indocin
