Mircette is a synthetic female hormone that helps to prevent ovulation i.e. the release of an egg from an ovary. It also helps to change the cervical mucus and uterine lining, and make it hard for sperm to reach the uterus and tuff for the fertilized egg to attach the uterus. It is basically a birth control pill used a contraceptive that helps to prevent pregnancy.

Description

Mircette is a combination of ethinyl estradiol and desogestrel used as a contraceptive pill. This combination is used as a birth control, estrogen replacement and to treat menopause osteoporosis, PMDD and acne. It shows its effect by preventing ovulation, enhancing estrogen level and by changing the hormone level.  This combination of oral contraceptive shows its effect by the suppression of gonadotropin. It manly acts by inhibiting the ovulation and alters the cervical mucus and the endometrium wall. It also helps to make vaginal fluid thick that prevent sperm from reaching the egg for fertilization and alters the uterus lining. 

Indications

Mircette the combination of desogestrel/ethinyl estradiol and ethinyl estradiol is a contraceptive pill indicated to prevent the pregnancy in women. It is also prescribed to regularize the menstrual cycle and acne treatment.

Contraindications

Contraindication is a condition in which a specific drug or treatment is not recommended. Mircette is contraindicated in case of

  • If the patient is allergic to any of the ingredients of this medicine.
  • If the patient is having a medical problem of Thrombophlebitis or thromboembolic disorder.
  • If the patient is having a medical history of cerebral vascular or coronary artery disease.
  • If the patient is having a medical problem of breast cancer.
  • If the patient is having a problem of the endometrium or estrogen- dependent neoplasia.
  • If the patient is having a medical history of undiagnosed abnormal genital bleeding.
  • If the patient is having a medical history of Cholestatic jaundice of pregnancy.
  • If the patient is having a medical history of  Hepatic adenomas or carcinomas

Drug Interaction

  • When two or more drugs are administered together they may interacts with each other. This interaction of two different types of drugs may changes the activity of recommended drugs. Drugs that interacts with the activity of Mircette are
  • Rifampicin enhances the chances of breakthrough bleeding.
  • Drugs like barbiturates, phenylbutazone, Phenytoin sodium, and carbamazepine and possibly with griseofulvin, ampicillin, and tetracycline also increase the chances of bleeding.
  • Aromatase inhibitors like anastrazole, exemestane.
  • Drugs like ospemifene, Tamoxifen, tizanidine, tranexamic acid

Storage:

  • Keep this medicine at room temperature.
  • Keep it away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture.
  • Keep it in cool and dry place.
  • Keep it out of reach of children and pets. 

Dose of administration

Take one pill daily at a same time.

This pack contains 28 pills which include 26 active pills of white and yellow colour that contains hormones and 2 inactive pills of light green colour that do not contains hormone.

Day1: start taking this medicine from the first day of your period. Take active (white) tablet first

Sunday starter: take the first active pill (white) on the first Sunday after your period

In both the cases take one tablet daily on the same time.

21pills: after having 21 pills wait for 7days to start the next pack, you may have the periods during that time. But don’t take more than 7days to start a new pack.

28pills: after having the last pill i.e. 28th pill immediately start the next pack on the next day.

If you missed a dose

If you miss one active pill, 

Take two pills on the day that you remember. Then take one pill per day for the rest of the pack

If you miss two active pills in a row in Week 1 or 2

Take two pills per day for two days in a row. Then take one pill per day for the rest of the pack. Use back-up birth control for at least 7 days following the missed pills

If you miss two active pills in a row in Week 3

Throw out the rest of the pack and start a new pack the same day if you are a Day 1 starter. If you are a Sunday starter, keep taking a pill every day until Sunday. On Sunday, throw out the rest of the pack and start a new pack that day.

If you miss three active pills in a row in Week 1, 2, or 3

Throw out the rest of the pack and start a new pack on the same day if you are a Day 1 starter. If you are a Sunday starter, keep taking a pill every day until Sunday. On Sunday, throw out the rest of the pack and start a new pack that day.

If you miss a reminder pill

Throw it away and keep taking one reminder pill per day until the pack is empty. You do not need back-up birth control if you miss a reminder pill.

In case of overdose

Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, and vaginal bleeding. In case of overdose seek immediate medical help.
