Ofloxacin eye drops belong to a group of medications known as quinolone antibiotics. It is used in the treatment of eye infections caused by a wide range of the bacteria, such as corneal ulcer and inflamed eye or conjunctivitis.

How this eye drop works?

Ofloxacin is an active pharmaceutical ingredient of this eye drop. It helps in preventing eye infection either by killing or inhibiting the growth of the bacteria.

How to use this eye drop?

  • After and before applying this eye drop always wash your hands with mild soap and water.
  • Put one drop into the affected eye and closes the eye for 1-2 minutes. Don’t blink or rib the eye. Press gently near the nose (cornea of the eye) to avoid draining out of the eye.
  • For the treatment of conjunctivitis, the recommended drop for Adults and children 1 year of age keep one drop in the affected eye every 2 to 4 hours for at least two days, until you are awake, Then after 2 days, keep 1 drop in each eye four times in a day for up to five more days.
  • For the treatment of bacterial corneal ulcers the recommended drop for Adults and children 1 year of age and older keep 1 drop in the affected eye every thirty minutes while you are awake. Then use 1 drop every hour while you are awake for up to seven more days.

Side effects

Some undesirable side effects include and itching; dry eyes; eye pain; foreign body sensation; sensitivity to sunlight; tearing, Indistinct vision; burning or discomfort in the eye, including stinging, redness. Severe allergic reactions skin rash; sore throat; itching; loss of consciousness; redness; unusual sensitivity to light, hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; fever, chills.

Contraindication

The use of this drug is contraindicated in certain condition:

  • In case of having any allergy to Ofloxacin or any of its ingredients.
  • This eye drop should not be used in child less than 1 years of age

Safety tips

  • To prevent the contamination of the medicine inside the eye drop, don’t touch the tip of the dropper or avoid the contact with the surface of the eye.
  • While using the eye drop, don’t wear the contact lens.
  • This eye drop may blur your vision. Avoid driving if you don’t able to see properly
  • Ofloxacin eye drop makes your eyes more light sensitive, so to avoid this always wear sunglasses to avoid the light exposure.
  • In case of using other kind of eye drop, wait for 5 minutes after applying this eye drop.
  • Use this eye drop till recommended .Don’t stop using the eye drop, even if symptoms of the infection gone. Incomplete treatments may allow the bacteria to cause infection again.

Storage condition

  • Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light. Keep from freezing.

  • In case of missed dose instantaneously take it as you come to know about it, avoid the intake of two dose at a time.

What to do in case of overdose:

In the case of overdose some symptoms are shown such as wooziness, headache, trouble in breathing, and uneven heartbeat.
